WACHOVIA PALMETTO CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Wachovia Palmetto Championships, the state's junior qualifying tournament was played for the 45th year in Belton June 8 - 15, 2001.  Over 500 junior players entered the tournament.  Championships were determined in singles and doubles for boys and girls in five divisions.

Over 1,100 matches were played during the week.  Nineteen courts were used in Belton and an additional 26 courts were used in Anderson.  The tournament headquarters were at the Belton Tennis Center.

Jim Russell and Stephanie Hammond served as Tournament Referees.  Maxine LeCroy was the Referee for the 12's, Mary Burgess the Referee for the 10's and Challenger, and Carey Washington was Director of Officials.  They were joined by 30 certified USTA officials from throughout the southeast.
