Brief History of the Farmers
Market
| The first Belton Farmers Market began in the 1970's
and was located near the U. S. Post Office on Holmes Street with
money from the state while Jones Ellison was the mayor of Belton. The
Farmers Market was operated by a committee consisting of W. C. Hunter, George
Hammett, and Henry Hester until a new market was constructed. |
| |
| Charles Campbell was appointed Director of the
Farmers Market in 1999 and oversees daily operations. The current market
is located on the premises of Belton City Park on North Holmes Street and was
constructed at a cost of $115,000 by a grant from the county. Anderson
County Council and the Mayor of Belton along with the Belton City Council
officially opened the new Belton Farmers Market with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
at 4:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 1, 2000. |
