The Leo Fisher Beautification
Fund was established at BB&T bank in Belton in November 1998 in memory of former
mayor, Leo Fisher. With the help of Sadie Maynard this fund has paid for
mulch and the irrigation system for downtown Belton and the light which has been
installed at the "Welcome To Belton" sign at the city limits on Anderson Highway
76.
The fund can be used for anything
pertaining to the attractiveness of our city. Volunteers have donated
their time installing electrical wiring for lights, planting flowers and weeding
the flower beds. "It is worth a trip to go see the tulips, iris, hyacinths
that are in full bloom along with the native trees and shrubs" according to
local resident and volunteer Janice Edwards.
Volunteers are actively sought
and welcome to work 1-2 hours approximately four times a year to weed the
Square, take care of the "Welcome To Belton" sign in the above photo as well as
the DOT flower garden at the railroad location across from Horton's Pharmacy.
Currently there are 9 volunteers.
Anyone can make a donation in
memory of their loved ones or just donate to a worthy cause. Donations may
