Christmas Tree Lighting & Other Festivities

The Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Festivities,
with a large attending crowd, began with Norma Hugues-Smith and Dave Jones introducing the
speakers and carolers that included: youngsters from Marshall
Primary School singing carols co-directed by Mrs. Charis Murphy and
Norma Hughes-Smith; the singing of Christmas
carols by the First Baptist Church Choir led by Robert Beaver; everyone singing Christmas Carols with an
interdenominational choir directed by Rev. Dwight Green, Director of Music
at the Second Baptist Church. Mayor Rufus Callaham, Billy O'Dell and
Larry Greer addressed the attending crowd.
Rep. Mike Grambrell announced the
winners of the Merchant Window Decorations Competition: 1st Place -
Dianne's Flower Shop, 2nd Place - Holliday's Florist, 3rd
Place - Page Shoe Shop. After the Tree Lighting Ceremonies,
everyone had a chance to participate in the 6th Annual Holiday Walk on the
Square to view business window decorations, the children walked to the Belton Depot where they
had an opportunity to do some craft work, had light refreshments, were read a Christmas
Story, and were visited by Santa Claus. At the same time, the adults
were invited to The Belton Center for the Arts where "free" light
refreshments were served, and they were able to view art work. Photos of the festivities are show
