Merchant Holiday Window Decorating Contest
Windows were decorated by Monday, December 3, 2007
Judging will took place Tuesday, December 4, 2007
Winners were announced Thursday, December 6, 2007
 

Belton Merchants participated in a citywide decorating contest of their business windows for Holiday Judging and Viewing Festivities that took place with the annual Christmas Tree Lighting on December 6, 2007 at 6:00 P.M.  In order to participate in the contest, windows were required to be decorated by Monday, December 3, 2007.  Decorated windows were judged the night of December 4, 2007.

Click for Larger View of Downtown Christmas TreeAn activity filled night for children and adults was held in Belton on the square on the night of December 6 at 6:00 P.M. at the annual Christmas Tree Lighting in Downtown Belton.  The family fun for all ages included The Marshall Primary Chorus, created by Dr. Kim Clardy, principal at Marshall Primary School and co-directed by Mrs. Charis Murphy and Mrs. Norma Hughes-Smith, performed and sang special Christmas songs.  The chorus was followed by the Second Baptist Church choir singing interdenominational music directed by the Rev. Dwight Green, and the singing of Christmas carols by the First Baptist Church Choir led by Mr. Robert Beaver.  Mayor Rufus Callaham, Billy O'Dell and Larry Greer spoke to the audience, and State House Representative Mike Gambrell announced the winners of the window decorating contest.

The 6th annual Holiday Walk on the Square to view business window decorations took place after the Christmas Tree Lighting while the children were treated to activities at the Historic Belton Depot.  Special activities were held at the Depot with Belton Center for the Arts Director Mrs. Betsy Chapman and Assistant Director, Stephanie Smith.  The children also heard a Christmas story by Mrs. Santa and had a surprise visit from Santa Claus.  Light refreshments were served.

The Belton Children's Christmas Parade was held downtown Belton on Sunday, November 25, 2007 at 3:00 pm.  Thousands of children and adults came to see bands playing, floats, cars, etc. including the annual visit by Santa Claus.  People lined both sides of the street to see more than 70 entries in the parade.

Groups (bands, churches, dancers, service organizations, etc.) participated with floats, cars, etc.  Lineup for the parade will took place on North Main Street.  Awards will be named in categories as listed below as with last years winners as soon as they have been received.

Winning top awards for the Belton Children's Christmas Parade 2007 were:

     Best Dance Group:   1st Place -  Dancers Edge
                                     2nd Place - 418 Line Dancers

     Best Band Entry:  Belton-Honea Path High School Marching Band

     Best Church Entry:  Bethany World Outreach

     Best Marching Group:  BHP AFJROTC Drill Team Unit

     Best Retail/Business Entry:  Tammy's Pet Shack, Honea Path, SC

     Best Wheeled Entry:  Pete's Family Restaurant

     Most Enterprising Entry:  Belton Tennis Association

     Most Original Entry:  Open Door Community Church

     Best Shriner Unit Entry:  Hill-Billy

Leading the 2007 parade was Grand Marshall Mitchell Cole.  Santa Claus was on hand for the 2007 Parade and riding on the Belton Fire Truck.

It has become traditional to light the star on the Standpipe in the evening following the Christmas Parade.
