Alison Darby, BAMA President
July 13, 2005
During the last year, many activities
have required time, effort, and strong backs to better the Museum's appearance
and operation.
The first membership drive in over 10
years was held in June 2004. Over 100 members responded, netting the
museum's operational fund $3740.
In October as part of the local Keep
America Beautiful campaign, BAMA Board Members put in 90 plus hours of work to
upgrade the landscaping around the Depot. With the help of members Buddy
Warnock, Lucille Mattison, Benson Mattison, Alison Darby, Linda Bradshaw, James
Ballard, Gerry Locke, David Jones, and Ernest Mattison, and assistants Silverio
Ranchero, Cesar Fierro, and Nickolas Ranchero, we hauled off five dump-truck
loads of mulch, complements of Fafard, Inc.
During the Standpipe Festival, museum
tours were given to over 150 people. It was rewarding to hear comments
such as the following: "I've lived in this area all my life and never come
in here. It's great!"
Grants have been submitted to Save
America's Treasures, the Belton Hospitality Tax, the SC Arts Commission, and the
