The
Art Market for the Juried Art
Show will be
available for entries NOT selected for the Juried Art Show. This will
give the public an opportunity to view
and purchase artwork, while giving artists a chance to make a sale.
The Art Market will be held at The Belton Center for the Arts. It will
be open on the night of the Juried Art Show reception and end on the day of
the Belton Standpipe Arts & Heritage Festival. The Art Market will be
open:
September 26 (Saturday)

October 3 (Saturday)

Artists can pickup their work
included in the Art Market during the following week.
The
Belton Center for the Arts located in upstate South Carolina will hold its
11th
Annual Belton Standpipe
Arts & Heritage Festival Juried Art Show
from Saturday, September 26, 2009 until Friday, November 13, 2009.
This is a regional juried competition included submissions from SC, NC &
GA in any media, including painting (oil, watercolor, acrylic, etc.) pastel,
drawing, ceramics, basketry, sculpture, photography, fiber, printmaking,
weaving, wood, etc. Professor Stephen Nevitt will be the juror. Detailed eligibility
& entry specifications follow, and all artists 18 years or older are
encouraged to enter.
The
opening reception will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2009 is free and open to the public.
Refreshments will be available. The Center is located at 306
City Square in Historic Downtown Belton, South Carolina. Gallery
Hours are Tuesday through Friday 10:00 am - 5:30 pm and Saturday from
10:00 am - 2:00 pm. If you have any questions about the Juried Art

Juror,
Stephen Nevitt:
Professor
Stephen Nevitt is the distinguished Chairman of the Department of Art at
Columbia College. He received his BFA from The University of South
Carolina and his MA from The State University of New York. He also
taught at The South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities
for fourteen years. He has been represented in over 200 exhibits,
including the honor of being one of 43 artists from South Carolina chosen to
exhibit at the Palazzo Venezia in Rome.
Stephen
Nevitt's resume includes over 40 shows in numerous cultural centers across
the state. He has exhibited in The Columbia Museum of Art, Furman
University, The Greenville Fine Arts Center, and Columbia College. He
also has over 30 pieces of artwork in private collections throughout the
United States.
Stephen has
won over 80 artistic awards along with being honored eight times for Best in
Show. He has served as juror in more than 100 art competitions.
As a speaker, Stephen has appeared over 60 times as a guest artist.

Merit Awards and
Purchase Awards are given out to recognize the achievements of talented
artists included in the Juried Art Show. |

Selections for Merit
Awards will be made at the Juror's discretion and all decisions are
final. All accepted artwork may be considered for Merit Awards. |
|
Purchase Awards are
given to artists whose artwork is chosen to be purchased by the donor of
the award. Regardless of the price of the work, the full amount of
the Purchase Award will be awarded to buy the artwork. Award prices are
set at $500 and $350. Please mark the appropriate box on the entry
form if your piece is available for one of these awards. Only
marked pieces will be considered. |

Eligibility:
This
competition is open to artists 18 years of age or older. Each artist may
submit up to TWO entries. All entries must be hand delivered to The
Belton Center for the Arts by the stated deadline.
Specifications:
Only
original works of art that have not been previously exhibited at the Belton Center
for the Arts will be accepted. Artwork may be in any medium,
including wood, painting, pastels, drawing,
ceramics, sculpture, basketry, weaving, photography, printmaking and fiber
arts.
All 2-dimensional art must be
ready to hang, meaning artwork is professionally framed and securely
wired/mounted. 2-D art should not
exceed 48" x 60" in either direction. Each 3-dimensional artwork must weigh no more than 50
pounds.
Entry Fee:
A
non-refundable entry fee of $30 per
artist for one or two entries must accompany the artwork and entry forms upon delivery
of the work. Make checks payable to the Belton Center for the Arts.
Sale of Work:
Unless
otherwise noted on the entry card, all work will be for sale through the
Belton Center for the Arts. If a work is not for sale, NFS must be
clearly marked on the entry card. If the artwork is for sale, a price
must be listed. A 30% commission will be taken by
The
Belton Center for the Arts upon the sale.
Liability:
All
artwork selected for exhibition will be insured by the Belton Center for the
Arts. BCA will handle all art work with the greatest care, but will
not be responsible for loss or damage. Artists are encouraged to carry their own insurance. BCA reserves the right to refuse any entry at its
own discretion. The Belton Center for the Arts also
reserves the right to photograph and reproduce any entry for educational or
promotional purposes. The receipt of an entry into the Juried
Art Show will constitute an agreement by the artist with the conditions set
forth in this prospectus.
The
Belton Center for the Arts is a community arts center striving to provide
the greater Belton area with quality cultural programs and educational
opportunities in the creative arts. The Center is located at 306 City
Square in Historic Downtown Belton, South Carolina. Gallery Hours
are Tuesday - Friday 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. -
2:00 p.m.
