The
Belton Center for the Arts located in upstate South Carolina will hold its
9th
Annual Belton Standpipe
Festival Juried Art Show
from Saturday, September 29, 2007 until Friday, November 16, 2007.
This is a regional juried competition included submissions from SC, NC &
GA in any media, including painting (oil, watercolor, acrylic, etc.) pastel,
drawing, ceramics, basketry, sculpture, photography, fiber, printmaking,
weaving, wood, etc. Carl Blair will be the juror. Detailed eligibility
& entry specifications follow, and all artists 18 years or older were
encouraged to enter.
Participation in the
competition has grown steadily since its inception and features more than $4000 in awards.
Up to two entries per artist will be accepted on Friday, September 14, 2007
from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm, Saturday, September 15,
2007 from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm, Sunday, September 16, 2007 from 3:00 -
5:00 pm, and on Monday, September 17, 2007 from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm.
The
opening reception will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2007 is free and open to the public.
Refreshments will be available. The Center is located at 300
City Square in Historic Downtown Belton, South Carolina. Gallery
Hours are Tuesday through Friday 10:00 am - 5:30 pm and Saturday from
10:00 am - 2:00 pm. If you have any questions about the Juried Art

Juror, Carl
Blair:
Born
in Atchison, Kansas, Carl Blair received his BFA from the University of
Kansas and his MFA from Kansas City Art Institute. For 41 years, Blair
was a professor of art at Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. Now
retired, he continues to paint and exhibit throughout the Southeast.
Blair
has a long history of awards and exhibitions. Exhibitions include Art
in Embassies Program; Ringling Museum, Chattanooga, Tennessee. In
1995, the Greenville Museum of Art hosted a major retrospective of his work.
In 2000, a forty-year retrospective show was held at the South Carolina
State Museum in Columbia. Blair uses nature as his point of departure.
He refers to his style as "neither realistic, nor abstract. I refer to
my work as visual poetry."
Carl
Blair was a member of the South Carolina Arts Commission for twelve years
and also served as chairman of the commission for two years. In 1970,
he and two other members of the Bob Jones University art faculty, Emery Bopp
and Darell Koons, founded Hampton III Gallery, one of the first commercial
galleries in Upstate South Carolina. In 2005, Blair was awarded the
Verner Award for Lifetime Achievement, the highest award given by the State
of South Carolina in the Arts.

Regardless of the purchase price of your work, the full amount of the
purchase award will be awarded if your piece is chosen by a donor.
Please mark the appropriate box on the entry form if your piece is
available for the purchase award. |
Eligibility:
This
competition is open to artists 18 years or older. Each artist may
submit up to two entries. All entries must be hand delivered to The
Belton Center for the Arts by the stated deadline.
Specifications:
Only
original works of art that have not been previously exhibited at the Belton Center
for the Arts will be accepted. These works may be in any medium,
including wood, painting (oil, watercolor, acrylic, etc.), pastels, drawing,
ceramics, sculpture, photography, fiber, printmaking, weaving, basketry, etc.
All 2-dimensional art must be
professionally framed and properly mounted for hanging, and should not
exceed 48" x 60". All 3-dimensional art must weigh no more than 50
pounds.
Entry Fee:
A
non-refundable fee of $30 per
artist for one or two entries must accompany the entry forms upon delivery
of the work. Make checks payable to the Belton Center for the Arts.
Sale of Work:
Unless
otherwise noted on the entry card, all work will be for sale through the
Belton Center for the Arts. If a work is not for sale, NFS must be
noted on the entry card; otherwise a price must be listed. A 30% commission will be taken by
The
Belton Center for the Arts upon the sale of a work.
Liability:
All
artwork selected for exhibition will be insured by the Belton Center for the
Arts. BCA will handle all art work with the greatest care, but will
not be responsible for loss or damage. Artists are encouraged to carry their own insurance. BCA reserves the right to refuse any entry at its
own discretion. The Belton Center for the Arts also
reserves the right to photograph and reproduce any entry for educational or
promotional purposes. The receipt of an entry into the Juried
Exhibition will constitute an agreement by the artist with the conditions set
forth in this prospectus.
The
Belton Center for the Arts is a community arts center striving to provide
the greater Belton area with quality cultural programs and educational
opportunities in the creative arts. The Center is located at 300 City
Square in Historic Downtown Belton, South Carolina. Gallery Hours
are Tuesday - Friday 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. -
2:00 p.m.
